This is lifted, word for word, from http://www.appropedia.org/Thrivability
It is so delicious, and perfectly presented, I wanted to share it, just as it is:
Thrivability is an abundant and sustainable way of living. Thrivability is sustainability+vision to flourish+ways of being. And by ways of being, means working in open distributed networks with heightened levels of collaboration, and certain quality of something that tends to fall into spirituality loosely. That last one has to do with how we compose ourselves and our work with others, honoring both the whole and the individual in a delicate balance, so we move beyond what spiral dynamics calls the green meme. Thrivability goes beyond sustainability by including social justice. It is not enough to find ways to sustain life and human life on the planet. Real thrivability means no one gets left behind in poverty, exposed unfairly to disaster, or suffers at the hand of corrupt governments. Thus thrivability requires a massive shift both in consciousness and in action: incorporating social justice work, environmental efforts, and process arts. We must include all these efforts and also transcend them through our growing understanding of complex adaptive systems and flow patterns. Fundamentally thrivability is visionary – it is about co-evolving a future we want rather than avoiding a future that terrifies us. It is about acting with enthusiasm toward an opportunity rather than away from catastrophe. It is about becoming a good ancestor.
This absolutely speaks to my soul, speaks to what we are choosing, in inviting ourselves to Envision Life Anew, to structure our lives so that ALL are thriving!!
Thank you. I am so glad it resonates with you. I look forward to future conversations on something we are both clearly passionate about!
This is a conversation I am bursting out of my skin to expand! I am so excited to find your blog your new project taking off — it is time~~~ So glad to “meet” you!
Thanks Elz! And hello Chris! Awesome blogroll! Let the conversations roll…as the erengy flows. Over on thrivable.org, Arthur Brock of Metacurrency.org has left a really amazing comment. I will share my favorite part of it with you here:
“Thrivability builds on itself. It is a cycle of actions which reinvest energy for future use and stretch resources further. It transcends sustainability by creating an upward spiral of greater possibilities and increasing energy. Each cycle builds the foundation for new things to be accomplished.
Thrivability emerges from the persistent intention to create more value than you consume. When practiced over time this builds a world of ever increasing possibilities.
Thrivability works like life on earth works. We have access to fertile soil, schools of fish, and deposits of oil because life has been storing up this energy slowly and carefully for many millions of years.” ~ Arthur Brock
It’s such a positive concept – I love it. Rather than costs and sacrifices, it’s about the abundance that’s available when we open our eyes to it.
Wow, Chris I love how you put that so succinctly. That’s it, exactly – coming from a perspective of abundance, and that ALL are served. Thanks for joining in this conversation!!

Nice post Elz. Thrivability is a great word.
Sukumar, great to hear from you, thanks for the feedback ~ I just thrill at the word – it speaks to the entire impact of *how we are being*, as we go about doing what we are doing. Just look at the dynamic of it: no one is “going without” that some few have “more/better than” — ALL in the process, are served, nurtured, enriched – at the expense/cost/sacrifice of no one, to the benefit of ALL.
See how that changes our very experiences of Life!!
